The Queen’s Green Canopy – Jubilee Trees planted in Camberley High Street

2022 is the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee year, as of 6 February 2022 Her Majesty the Queen became the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth.

The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) is a unique tree planting initiative inviting people from across the United Kingdom to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee”. As well as inviting the planting of new trees, The Queen’s Green Canopy will dedicate a network of 70 Ancient Woodlands across the United Kingdom and identify 70 Ancient Trees to celebrate Her Majesty’s 70 years of service.

In Surrey Heath we have placed Jubilee trees in Camberley High Street to mark the occasion.

The Mayor of Surrey Heath, Cllr Sarah Jane Croke recently visited the new trees joined by Cllr Robin Perry.

Cllr Sarah Jane Croke said; “These delightful new trees bring greenery and nature into Camberley town centre as well as supporting the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative.

“The Council is committed to looking after and conserving our green areas and maintaining Surrey Heath’s status as having the highest level of tree coverage in England and Wales, at more than 40%.”

You can also support the Queen’s Green Canopy by planting a tree in your garden, visit the website for details on how to log your tree on their interactive map to build a record of all the Jubilee Trees planted across the country – https://queensgreencanopy.org/(link is external)

Note: One tree and planter were damaged recently in a car accident. We have arranged for a replacement tree and planter that will be in place soon.
