The Workshop celebrates its first birthday

On Thursday 7 July 2022 the Mayor of Surrey Heath, Cllr Helen Whitcroft, Cllr Shaun Garrett, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Economic Development and Transformation and Cllr Sarah Jane Croke, Portfolio Holder Housing, Safeguarding and Support, joined the team at The Workshop and guests for a first birthday celebration for The Workshop.

The Workshop is a joint partnership between Surrey Heath Borough Council and The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and aims to deliver holistic support to young people aged 18 to 24 living in Surrey Heath. The Workshop works closely with employment support providers, local businesses, local organisations and charities to offer young job seekers opportunities to improve their employment skills, overcome their barriers to employment, and discover new career paths during tailored one-to-one appointments with coordinators at The Workshop, as well as the option of being matched with a local mentor following the implementation of the mentoring programme by The Workshop.

The Workshop has built strong links with local businesses and organisations which has enabled it to deliver career-style events, skills workshops and webinars to further the prospects of the service users and to demonstrate employment and learning opportunities available in Surrey Heath.

The Council has also recently secured funding for a further 12 months for The Workshop to continue from the Department of Work and Pensions Flexible Support Fund.

Cllr Shaun Garrett, Deputy Leader and Economic Development and Transformation Portfolio Holder said;

“I am delighted to join the team today to celebrate this important milestone for The Workshop.  The Workshop is providing a unique and much needed service to young people in the borough and it is fantastic to see if go from strength to strength.

Many thanks to all the businesses and organisations who are supporting The Workshop – these partnerships are key to the success of this initiative and we really appreciate your input.

If you are a young person seeking employment opportunities, I thoroughly recommend you visit the friendly, knowledgeable team here for outstanding support as you start your careers.”
