We know persistent gatherings of mopeds (often delivery drivers) on Camberley High Street and Charles Street is an issue for those living and using the area.
Officers have been working with Surrey Police since the summer, exploring the best route to resolve the situation. Arrangements for a joint action group meeting with town centre partners to tackle the situation has now taken place. As a result, representatives from SHBC Community Safety, property and parking teams, along with Surrey Police, The Atrium, The Square and Camberley BID have agreed to assess the potential of relocating the meeting points of drivers to other areas, to help minimise community impact.
We are now engaging with the food delivery businesses directly to find a solution that will work for everyone including the food businesses and their customers.
Cllr Shaun Garrett, SHBC Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Economic Development and Transformation said;
“Purchasing takeaway food is becoming more and more popular via apps and we need to find a better way to facilitate these deliveries, as they are an important income stream for businesses, but also ensure disruption for businesses, residents and visitors in the town centreis kept to a minimum.
By taking this joined up approach we aim to find a solution that operationally works better for everyone.
Whilst we are working together on this matter we will continue to monitor the situation, and will work with partners to take action where necessary. Increased patrols and joint initiatives will be taking place by our parking enforcement teams and Surrey Police.”
