The Household Support Fund (HSF) was announced by the Government in October 2021 and aims to provide support to vulnerable households in need of support this winter.
SHBC is delivering the fund in conjunction with Citizens Advice Surrey Heath, and since its launch in late November, more than £25,000 of grants have been issued to local people so far.
Awards can be given for essential household expenses such as food, energy and water or for one-off essential items such as winter clothing. Grants of £50 (individual) and £80 (families) are available.
Surrey Heath Portfolio Holder for Support and Safeguarding, Cllr Shaun Garrett, said: “I’d like to thank Citizens Advice for their hard work in getting this funding system up and running so quickly, and in getting the grants distributed to the people who need them so urgently.
“Thousands of pounds have been awarded already to individuals, couples and families from every ward in the Borough.
“Grant applications can be made through to the end of March 2022, so if you qualify for the funding, please do fill out the application form and send it into CASH. We know times are tough for many people at the moment, and we are here to help.”
You may qualify for the Household Support Fund if you live in Surrey Heath and any of the following apply to you:
- You are on a low income
- You are in receipt of means-tested benefits eg Universal credit or Pension Credit
- Your children receive free school meals
- You are struggling to pay your essential household bills
Citizens Advice Surrey Heath are managing the application process for this fund.
