Death of Frimley Green ward local election candidate

Surrey Heath Borough Council is saddened to hear of the death of Karen Campion, who was a candidate in the upcoming Borough elections due to take place on 4 May 2023.

Mrs Campion was standing in the Frimley Green ward.

Following Mrs Campion’s death, the election in the Frimley Green ward has been ‘countermanded’, which means it will not take place on the original date of 4 May. This is a requirement set out in election law. All other Borough and Parish elections will take place as planned.

All postal votes returned to date for Frimley Green ward will not be counted.

The notice of election for the three councillors for Frimley Green will be published as soon as possible after the completion of the Borough Elections. New poll cards and postal votes will be sent to electors in due course.

SHBC Returning Officer, Damian Roberts said: “We are saddened to hear of the death of Mrs Campion, and send our heartfelt condolences to her family and friends.”
